In short

Local SEO helps a business with a shop, clinic, office or service area appear when people search nearby: the Google map pack, Maps and “near me” results. The Adroit delivers it from India for businesses in the USA, UK, UAE, Australia, Canada and elsewhere. The work is done remotely on your profile, listings and website, calls are booked in an agreed overlap of working hours, and the monthly report shows calls, directions and clicks from your own market. It is one rung of the geography ladder; for national or international buyers, our SEO services pillar covers the other rungs. Nobody can promise a map position. Head office in Navi Mumbai; teams in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi.

01Where local SEO sits

One rung of the geography ladder

Where your customers are decides the strategy, not where our team sits. Local SEO is the right tool when customers come to you, or you go to them, within a short distance of your own location. For a whole country or several, the keyword universe, site structure and authority work change; the SEO services pillar explains those.

  1. Hyperlocal and local: map pack, “near me”, one neighbourhood or city (this page)
  2. City-wide: ranking across a whole metro area, often with local SEO alongside
  3. Multi-city and state or region: location pages, regional content
  4. National: country-wide keyword sets, topical authority (read more about SEO Services)
  5. International: country and language targeting, hreflang where relevant
02Who needs it

Which businesses abroad need local SEO from an Indian team?

If customers visit you, you travel to them, or you run branches that each serve a neighbourhood, local search is where they find you. Where you are matters for ranking; where the team doing the work sits does not, because the work happens on your profile, listings and website. Online-only sellers usually belong on a different rung.

Visit-in businessesClinics, salons, restaurants, showrooms, gyms, pharmacies.
Go-to-customer servicesRepairs, installers, cleaners, movers and other home services.
Appointment-led practicesCoaching, legal, accounting, diagnostics and consultancies.
Multi-branch and franchiseChains, dealer networks and franchisees that each need a profile and a page.
Property and tradeReal estate offices, wholesalers and B2B suppliers buyers visit in person.
Selling nationally or online only?Local signals matter less; start with the SEO services pillar instead.
03How the map pack is decided

Illustrative map pack layout, not a live result.

Relevance, distance, prominence

Google’s own documentation says local results are ranked mainly on these three. We cannot move the searcher, so the work goes into the other two and into avoiding the mistakes that cost ground.

RELEVANCE

Does your profile match the search?

Primary category, services, products and description tell Google what you do.

DISTANCE

How near are you to the searcher?

Exact pin, correct address, sensible service area. Accuracy, not tricks.

PROMINENCE

How well known are you?

Reviews, replies, directory and local mentions, website strength. Slowest to build, hardest to copy.

Honest limit. Google does not publish the weights. We work from its documentation and from what we measure on your own profile.

04Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile: set up fully, kept current

The biggest single lever in local SEO and the one most often left half-finished. We complete every field that applies, within Google’s guidelines, and revisit them monthly because hours, offers and services change.

Profile fields: what we set and the mistake we look for
FieldWe setWe look for
NameThe real, signed name customers see outsideKeywords or areas added to the name
CategoriesOne primary that matches the main service, genuine secondaries onlyToo many loose categories
Address / service areaExact pin; hidden address plus served areas for go-to-customer businessesVirtual office used as a branch
HoursRegular hours plus public-holiday and sale-day hours“Open” while the shutter is down
Phone and websiteLocal number as primary; website link tagged so clicks are countedHead-office switchboard on every branch
Services and productsEach one with a short plain description; prices only where you want themEmpty section or pasted text
Photos and postsReal photos of entrance, interior, team and work; updates and offers on a schedule you approveStock images, expired posts
Q&A and messagesCustomer questions answered quickly; messaging on only if someone will replyUnanswered questions, unwatched inbox

Verification (video, phone, email or postcard, whichever Google offers) and suspension appeals are part of setup. Reinstatement is Google’s decision; we prepare the evidence. If Google sends a postcard or code to your address, someone at your location has to receive it, so we agree who that is before we start.

05NAP and citations
Person checking a business address and phone number on a phone map

NAP consistency and business listings in your market

Name, address, phone: when Google finds the same three details on your profile, website and directories, it trusts the business is real and where it says. Every country has habits that make this harder: suite and unit numbers, abbreviations such as St and Street, ZIP or postcode formats, area codes, a toll-free number here and a local line there. We agree one master record in your market’s format and bring every listing to it.

  1. 1AuditFind duplicates, closed branches and wrong data.
  2. 2Master recordOne sheet per location: name, address, phone, hours, categories.
  3. 3Fix and claimCorrect, claim or merge; request removal of duplicates.
  4. 4MaintainUpdate everywhere when you move, change numbers or add holiday hours.
Where a business usually needs listings, by type
Listing typeExamplesWhy
Search and map platformsGoogle Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business ConnectFeed the maps people actually open
National and regional directoriesThe main consumer directories and data aggregators in your country, chosen with youLong-standing sources searchers and aggregators still use
Social profilesFacebook, Instagram, LinkedIn pagesOften the first result for the brand; must carry the same NAP
Industry portalsHealth, legal, education, property, travel or restaurant sites for your tradeRelevant mentions outweigh another general directory
Local associationsChambers of commerce, trade bodies, business groupsTrustworthy local mentions that link to you

Directories are chosen for your category and city, not by count, and never used as a link-building shortcut.

06Location pages

Location and service-area pages that earn their place

Pages that differ only by the place name are doorway pages, a common cause of ranking problems. We build a page when there is a real branch or a real, distinct service to describe. That content is also what AI answer engines read; see GEO and AIO services.

We would publish

  • One URL per real branch, linked from its profile
  • Address, map, hours, parking, nearest landmark
  • Services and staff actually at that branch
  • Photos of that site, questions asked there
  • LocalBusiness schema matching the visible details

We would not

  • Fifty copies of one paragraph, locality swapped
  • An area page for a place you do not serve
  • A page for an address that is not a branch
  • Hidden text or ZIP and postcode lists in the footer
  • A thin page created only to chase a keyword
Shopfront with a location marker, standing for a real branch that deserves its own page
07Multi-location

Multi-location and franchise structure

With several branches the risk shifts from missing data to inconsistent data and unclear ownership. Head office owns the brand name, categories and core descriptions; each branch owns hours, photos, posts and review replies; one person is accountable for every profile.

  1. 1Locations hubA crawlable page listing every branch with links, not a JavaScript-only search box.
  2. 2One page per branchUnique details, staff, services, photos and local FAQs.
  3. 3One profile per eligible branchGrouped under your account, verified, linked to its own page.
  4. 4Naming and data rulesOne format for names, addresses and categories in the master record.
  5. 5Opening, moving, closingA checklist so new branches go live right and closed ones are marked closed everywhere.
08Reviews

A review workflow inside Google’s rules

Reviews affect ranking and whether someone calls you or the shop next door. The routine is simple enough for a branch manager: ask every customer, reply to every review, learn from complaints.

  • Write or buy reviews, or ask staff and family to post them
  • Offer discounts or gifts in return for a review
  • Show the request only to satisfied customers (review gating)
  1. Make asking easyDirect review link as a QR code on the counter or receipt, and in an SMS, email or messaging-app note after the visit.
  2. Ask everyoneSame request to every customer, whatever you expect them to say.
  3. Reply to every reviewThank by name and detail; answer critical ones calmly, resolve offline, never argue in public.
  4. Report what breaks policyFlag spam, fake or off-topic reviews through Google’s tools and keep a record.
  5. Feed it back monthlyWe summarise review themes so you fix the cause, not just the comment.
09Schema and measurement

LocalBusiness schema, kept honest

We add LocalBusiness markup (a specific type such as Dentist, Restaurant or Store where one exists) to the home page and each location page, checked against the visible page. Schema supports ranking; it does not create it. We never add self-published review or rating markup.

Properties we mark up
IdentityName, type, logo, URL
ContactPhone; email where public
PlacePostal address, map link, coordinates
HoursOpening hours and special hours
CoverageAreas served
Brand linksOfficial profiles; parent brand for chains

What we measure each month

Local SEO should end in a phone ringing or a person walking in, so we count those actions, not just pin positions. The report arrives in the first week of each month, built from The Adroit SEO Tool and Data Studio (Looker Studio) reports, followed by a month-on-month review of next month’s priorities.

Profile calls

From the call button, as Google reports them.

Direction requests

The closest online sign of intent to visit.

Website clicks

Tagged so they show as local traffic in Analytics.

Messages and bookings

Chat, WhatsApp and appointment clicks as events.

Search terms

Queries that showed your profile, by area and service.

Review activity

Count, recency, rating trend, reply coverage per branch.

Google Analytics
Google Search Console
Looker Studio
Google Trends
Semrush

Tracking numbers. A call-tracking number can sit on the website or as an extra profile number, but your real local number stays primary so NAP stays consistent. For walk-ins, a “how did you find us?” question at the counter works.

10Time zones and communication

Working hours, overlap and how we communicate

India Standard Time is UTC+5:30 all year, because India does not use daylight saving time. Your offset changes whenever your country moves its clocks, so we agree the overlap in writing and re-check it twice a year. Most of the work, such as profile edits, listings, pages and reporting, needs no live conversation; the overlap is for approvals, questions and the monthly review.

Your dedicated account manager is your single contact, with a maximum 12-hour turnaround time (TAT), so a question sent at the end of your day has an answer by the start of the next one.

Posts, offers and review replies are scheduled to your customers’ local time, not ours, so a Saturday-morning post lands on a Saturday morning where your shop is.

How communication runs

  • One account manager as the single point of contact
  • Written updates and approvals by email, so nothing waits on a live call
  • Calls booked inside the agreed overlap window
  • The Adroit SEO Tool and Data Studio reports in the first week of every month
  • A month-on-month review of priorities, held in the overlap window
  • A named person on your side to approve changes and receive any Google verification
How India’s clock compares (approximate; changes with daylight saving)
Your regionOffset from IndiaHow the overlap usually works
USA, eastIndia is 9.5 to 10.5 hours aheadYour morning is our early evening; calls are booked in that window
USA, westIndia is 12.5 to 13.5 hours aheadYour morning is our late evening; short calls, booked ahead
UKIndia is 4.5 to 5.5 hours aheadYour morning overlaps our afternoon
UAEIndia is 1.5 hours aheadWorking days overlap for most of the day
Australia, east coastIndia is 4.5 to 5.5 hours behindYour afternoon is our morning

Check the exact gap on the day: countries change their clocks on different dates.

Honest limit. The overlap is a window for conversation, not round-the-clock cover. If something urgent appears, such as a profile suspension, we tell you as soon as we see it and act in our next working hours.

11Near me and voice

“Near me” and voice searches

People in your market search in different ways, typed or spoken to a phone, and in more than one language where your area is multilingual. “Near me” has no keyword to target: Google fills in the location, and your job is to be the obvious match for category and area. We write profile text and page copy in the words your customers actually use, without stuffing every variation.

  • dentist near me open now
  • emergency plumber in your city
  • best accountant near your neighbourhood
  • family lawyer open Saturday near me
  • Hey Google, which pharmacy is open near me
Query pattern and the work behind it
PatternWhat we do
Category + near meRight primary category, precise pin, reviews, accurate hours
Service + localityServices on the profile; a service page naming areas you really serve
Search phrasingDescriptions and FAQs; check the spellings people use first
Question or voiceHours, FAQ answers and attributes that give a one-line answer
Brand + placeLocation page and profile per branch so the right one shows

AI assistants answer the same questions from the same data; we cover that under GEO and AIO services.

12Limits

What local SEO cannot do

Better to know the limits before you sign than in month four. Timelines depend on your website, local competition and the profile’s history, so we do not quote one in advance.

Outside our control

  • Promise a map-pack position or a date
  • Decide how Google lays out results
  • Overrule a suspension; we prepare evidence, Google decides
  • Remove a genuine bad review; we reply and report breaches
  • Make up for closed doors or poor service

What it does well

  • Keeps your details correct where people look first
  • Gives nearby searchers a reason to choose you
  • Builds a steady flow of reviews and replies
  • Turns each branch into a findable, measurable location
  • Pairs with PPC for leads while organic builds
13Checklists

Checklist: single-location vs multi-location

Tick what you can honestly say yes to; the rest is the starting list for an audit.

Single location

  • One verified profile, primary category, complete fields
  • Identical NAP on website, profile and directories
  • Hours include public holidays and seasonal closures
  • Services, products, photos and description added
  • Review link at the counter; every review answered
  • Contact page with map, phone and LocalBusiness schema
  • Calls, directions and website clicks being counted

Multi-location

  • Master record of NAP and hours for every branch
  • Crawlable locations hub and one unique page per branch
  • One profile per eligible branch, linked to its page
  • Rules for naming, categories and who may edit
  • Common review request and reply guide
  • Plan for opening, moving and closing branches
  • One report comparing branches side by side

Local SEO on the same wheel

Where local work sits on the SEO wheel

Local SEO uses the same strands. Directory submission on the wheel is the listings and citations work on this page, done by relevance rather than volume, alongside keyword research, competitor analysis and the monthly report. The full wheel is explained on the SEO services page.

SEO process wheel: website analysis, keyword research, competitor analysis, webpage optimisation, social media integration, blog submission, press releases, article submission, directory submission, quality link building and monthly report
14Month by month

How a month of local SEO work runs

An audit and foundation work first, then a monthly cycle that ends in a report and a priorities review. Where your site runs on WordPress, PHP or Ruby, our team applies website fixes itself; you approve what goes on the profile.

  1. 1Audit

Profile, listings, duplicates, reviews, location pages, schema and tracking, against local competitors.

    Start of work
  2. 2Fix the foundations

Correct NAP, claim or merge listings, finish the profile, fix the pages and site issues holding them back.

    Start of work
  3. 3Publish

Photos, posts, offers, service text, FAQ answers and page updates, as needed.

    Every month
  4. 4Manage reviews

Requests running, new reviews answered, themes noted, policy breaches reported.

    Every month
  5. 5Build local authority

Relevant listings and local mentions, quality over quantity.

    Every month
  6. 6Report and review

The Adroit SEO Tool and Data Studio reports in the first week, then a month-on-month review of priorities in our overlap hours.

    Every month

Questions

FAQs

Yes. Local SEO is done on your Google Business Profile, your listings and your website, and all three can be worked on remotely. What we need from you is accurate branch details, real photos of the premises, someone who can approve what we publish, and someone at the address who can receive any verification from Google. Our head office is in Navi Mumbai, with teams in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, and the process is the same for a business in any country.

The routine has five parts. We keep your Google Business Profile current with photos, posts, services and special hours. We check that your name, address and phone number still match across directories. We help you collect and answer reviews. We update location pages and fix website issues that hold them back. And we report calls, direction requests and website clicks in the first week of each month, then review priorities for the next month with your team.

India Standard Time is UTC+5:30 and India does not change its clocks, so the gap to your city moves by an hour when your country does. We agree an overlap window in writing at the start and re-check it twice a year. Calls for approvals and the monthly review are booked inside that window. Your dedicated account manager answers within a maximum 12-hour turnaround time, and posts and review replies are scheduled to your customers’ local time.

You have one dedicated account manager as your contact. Updates and approvals go in writing by email, with calls booked in the overlap window. Reporting comes from The Adroit SEO Tool and Data Studio reports in the first week of each month, covering calls, direction requests, website clicks, messages and review activity, followed by a month-on-month review of the next month’s priorities.

Usually not on its own. Local SEO helps with map-pack and near-me searches around a physical location. If your buyers are in several regions or across a whole country, the strategy moves up the geography ladder: a wider keyword universe, location or regional pages, content that builds topical authority and different measurement. Our SEO services pillar describes those rungs; many businesses need local SEO for their branches plus national SEO for their website.

Yes, if you serve a defined area. Google lets service-area businesses hide their address and list the areas they cover, so customers see where you work and not your home. The rest is similar: the right categories, services, reviews and a website with pages for the services and areas you genuinely cover. If you serve the whole country and nobody ever visits, general SEO is usually the better fit.

Filling it in means entering your details once. Optimising means choosing categories and services deliberately, writing a factual description, adding real photos on a schedule, setting special hours, posting updates, replying to reviews and tracking what people do from the profile. We also keep it within Google’s guidelines, because keyword-stuffed names and fake addresses are the usual reasons profiles get suspended.

It usually comes from old directory entries, a move, a change of number or data copied by aggregators. It matters because inconsistent details weaken Google’s confidence in the business and can create duplicate profiles that split your reviews. We search for the variations, set one master record in the format used in your country, correct or claim each listing and ask directories to remove duplicates we cannot edit.

Start with Google Business Profile, Bing Places and Apple Business Connect, then the main consumer directories and data aggregators used where your customers are, and the portals specific to your trade, such as health, legal, property or travel sites. We pick by relevance to your category and city, not by count, and we avoid low-quality directories that add nothing.

We set up the process: a direct review link, a QR code for the counter, a message after each visit, and a reply routine. We ask every customer, not only happy ones. Google’s policies prohibit buying or writing reviews, rewards in exchange for reviews, and review gating, so we do none of these. A profile caught doing them can lose reviews or be suspended.

Give each branch its own verified profile and its own page on the website, with a locations hub that links to them. Keep one master record for names, addresses, phones, categories and hours, and decide in writing who may change what: head office for the brand and categories, each branch for hours, photos, posts and replies. Report branch by branch so weak locations stand out.

Calls, direction requests, website clicks and messages come from the Business Profile reports, and website events from Google Analytics through tagged links. We also run sampled position checks around each branch as a guide. Timing depends on your site, local competition and the profile’s history, so we do not quote a date or promise a position. Each month’s report shows what moved and what we will do next.

Often both, for different jobs. Ads can bring calls from the first day while a new profile has no reviews or history. Local SEO takes longer to build but keeps working without a per-click cost. We set up the profile and listings first because they are needed either way, and suggest PPC alongside when the opening needs immediate enquiries.
